Activities and Vision
While much research along these areas of expertise was already underway prior to the launch of the Initiative, this new program, which integrates and brings together these teams, is still in a nascent stage. Here we lay out our modest activities thus far that build on Columbia’s synergies, and we show our vision for what we could be in the future, including our research capabilities. We recognize that our capabilities are vast, and we have the potential to make a great impact on extreme weather and climate research, which would also have implications for public policy and community planning at various levels. Given the opportunity, this initiative could grow into a wide-reaching and impactful center.
